Sound business is something else.. I tell you! You either have to love this shit or leave it the fuck alone. Man.....this week's SOUND CHAT is with Katarock sound system. They were a strong sound a few years ago, but never quite became a force in the arena. I could never understand why a sound with such arsenal and financial backing had such a short lifespan. It was a quick rise to fame and an even faster fall. Until now, the story was never told. This week, I chopped it up with Quincy Jones, the lead selector of Katarock sound system. I asked him all the questions that sound clash fans have been dying to know and he didn't hesitate to answer them. But out of the whole interview, what sticks out like a sore thumb is that Quincy Jones blames the downfall of the sound system on Juxie Killer.
I know you guys remember Juxie Killer right? He was the star selector on Travellers Disco, who went on to play Katarock. He was very sharp, full of talk and wit. Long story short....the kid was very talented. Anyway, according to Quincy, Juxie was hired to Katarock's management team in an effort to bring more hype and popularity to the sound system. Never-the-less, the plan backfired and Juxie's membership on the sound brought a bunch of drama. In summary, Quincy Jones explained that Juxie wanted to be the only star on a sound system that was already doing well before his existence.
Now of course, there are two sides to every story. And I am not in the position to justify anyone's explanation. My position is to ask the questions and get the answers. I am no judge nor jury....but what I will do, to make this a balanced feature is vibe with Juxie to get his side of the story. If any of you know Juxie or have a link to him.....please let him know about my sound chat request.
