As Jamaica's 50th independence celebrations heighten controversy is brewing over the selection of the official Jamaica 50 song with Shaggy's chosen track titled "On a mission" not getting good reviews at all. The song is being heavily criticized for its new age pop, alternative and techno sound which many are saying does not and should not represent Jamaica's rich musical history, while the originally commissioned song "Find your flag" which was produced by top rated Music Producer Mikey Bennett is being viewed as the better choice".
Now Mr Vegas has also taken issue as he said he had approached the Jamaica Tourist Board and offered his track "Sweet sweet Jamaica" which incidentally features Josie Wales and Shaggy, and was told "it wasn't doing enough." Upon hearing the Shaggy produced chosen JA 50 song he released a statement saying "No disrespect to the producers or artists on this 50th anniversary song, but if this is the music that best represent our 50yrs of independence, then I need to fall back to sleep & don't wake up. The bias & favoritism is so ugly in Jamaica & they are not even trying to hide it anymore."
