Many are asking why isn't Mavado, one of dancehall's hottest stars, not on the Sumfest line up? The fact is that he could easily fit in on Dancehall or one of the event's 2 international rosters. The singjay who is now signed to DJ Khaleed's "We the best" records, is based in Florida.
Earlier this year it was reported that he got married to a Florida resident, a move which many saw as being strategic to getting a United States green card with so many Jamaican artistes having lost their working permits in recent times, himself included. Mavado however has been reinsated with a US work permit but is possibly in jeopardy of losing it as he was recently convicted of assault in a Jamaican court.
Legal advisors have stated that based on this new development the artiste now needs to inform US Immigration about his conviction and may have to apply for a waiver in order to keep his work permit. Owing to teh above seculations are now rampant that he has declined to perform on Sumfest as he does not wish to leave the US mainland and risk not being able to reenter.
