Political Peace?

By now, you should have all heard that the Gully and Gaza beef is over.  Mavado and Kartel have called it quits by performing together in harmony at one of Jamaica's most talked about events.  The crowd really enjoyed themselves.  But why did these two war mongers call a truce...with Sting right around the corner?  The question of the day is....will it last?
The truth is.... This peace thing was not solely the choice of the two artists in involved.  The government in Jamaica came down hard on them.  The started to receive numerous visits and warnings from the police for various reasons.

First and foremost, the school kids started to bring the Gully/Gaza rivalry into the schools.  Such behavior started to create division in a place of learning.  On the streets, music fans of both groups started to behave violently toward each other.  Communities started choosing sides and naming their areas Gully and Gaza territories.  This of course meant people living in these areas became pressured into taking a side and in some cases threatened by violence if they refused to comply.
And most of all -- the Gully/Gaza feud started to infest other Caribbean islands resulting in the governments of these islands pressuring Jamaica to diffuse such movement.

It's a fact that had Mavado and Kartel refused to call it peace, the government would have placed restriction on all of their performances throughout the island.  There was no escaping!!!!  This peace is all political.  The Prime Minster went as far as insisting that the two record a song together, encouraging their followers to unite.

So bloggers, here is my question.  After all the personal things they said about each other on record, can these two go back to be friends?    Oh and allow me to mention that Killa, Mavado's General, is still pushing the war on Gaza.  As of now, he will be clashing Kartel at Sting...peace or no peace!!

So, how does this work?  Killa and Kartel remain enemies, while Kartel and Mavado do the friend thing?  Won't Killa feel Mavado is betraying him in the long run?  How would things go between Killa and Mavado if Kartel kills Killa at Sting?  You can be sure that Killa won't want Kartel be friends with his strongest Alliance member.  And for sure -- Kartel will rub it in Killa's face that he and Mavado are friends again.

I wonder where Bling Dawg and Busy stand on this peace thing?  I want to know your thoughts on this one!  Do you think this peace will last long and why?

Jus like da big man seh.... Dis peace is politically motivated.... N structured specifically 4 gully/gaza... But keep dis in mind kartel n mavado straight up like each... But dey r smart... Dey kne da world was watchin dem in disapproval... I\'m sure plp must hav tell dem \"jah kno... Unnu a tek it 3 far\" n if dat wasn\'t enuff
.. Like da big man seh... Babylon start mess wid dem money... Wid dat said... I dnt tink kartel n mavado will ever b friends so there will b no conflict btween mavado n da killer... N as 4 killa pursuin da war.. Well ad I said b4... Da treaty is btween gully/gaza... Killa is not a member of da gully squad... He is da leader of DA ALLIANCE... So da treaty doesn\'t apply 3 him... N if u r wonderin where mavado will stand... Youtube da peace dance... Ull hear wen da dj declare .... \"alliance 4 life\" uzeet..

ITS GOOD THAT THEY CAN SHOW A GOOD FACE TO THE PUBLIC BUT IN REAL LIFE I THINK THEY HAD NO OTHER OPTION ONLY TO CALL FOR PEACE IN OTHER TO SAVE YOUR CAREER, WITH THE GOV, PUTTING THE MUSILE ON THEM AND THERE SHOWS WHAT ELSE TO DO ? BUT A GOOD THING STILL, LETS JUST SEE HOW LONG THIS WILL LAST. PS NOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO BOUNTY COME BACK AT STING NOW ?

I hope the peace lasts because the feud the losses far outwiegh the gains. Although we love it and see a some white faces scattered in the crowd at the variuos shows, dancehall reggae audience is very small compared to other genres of music. Therefore, unlike hip hop where the beefs can fuel the popularity of an artis, but the mass public is just buying what/who\'s \"hot\" (which is determined by the buzz in the \"hood\")at the time they are not thinking about the fueds. The \"hood\" might be concerned with the beef, but that\'s not who buys the CD\'s and attends the concerts. Where as dancehall very often is defined by the beefs, which the mass consumers will stay away from, which will ultimatly hurt the indusrty.

One might say who gives a shit about what other races, cultures, etc. think about our music and I agree to certain point. However, I want to see dance hall artist and sounds get the respect that they deserve, whic means you don\'t have to love us, but respect our position (and buy our music)
