Remembering Squingy

Tears came to my eyes when I learned of Squingy's passing.  But what makes me mad is the fact that in his passing, many of you are playing a blame game regarding who took care ofSquingy and who didn't.  I do believe that Squingy's memory is worth more than a bunch of negativity.   Furthermore, many of you don't care about the well being of others -- your just enjoying the chance to tarnish the names and images of respected people.

Squingy is one of the best selectors to play in the sound clash game!  He has contributed so much to our sport!  His talent was out of this world!  He was an originator, a leader, and a true lover of the sound culture.  He was not afraid to talk his mind on and off stage.  He stood for the music.  His persona has molded many generations of young selectors and will continue to have a dominant presence in our sport.  Please stop with the negativity and remember this man for what he was..... A KING OF HIS CRAFT.

Those of you who are true Squingy fans please help others to honor him by listing your favorite memory of this Legend.  I will go first...

When I think about Squingy, I remember the first time I met him.  I was playing King Agony.  At that time, I was killing all the big sounds when they came to Queens, NY.  A promoter booked King Agony to play alongside Bass Odyssey at club Klass.  I was so hype about playing with them.  I knew very little about Bass Odyssey at the time, but i did not care.  One week prior to the dance I killed  Jamrock sound at club Elite and Black Kat a few months before.  So, I was i feeling myself.

I got to the dance early to hold a vibe.  Crazy people were there hyping me up to turn the dance into a clash.  My one friend "FATTA" from Original Records kept saying "don't do it to yourself".  I did not listen to him -- lol.

I went on the stage and packed all my dubs on the table into about 12 piles and started to plan my attack.  Squingy walked in with Keith and just stood next to the table watching me.  At the time,  I did not know it was him.  He had on this red farmer jump suit and it was short as fuck lol..  You could see his ankles lol.  After I finished packing out my plates, he said to me "Yo a which big sound dis unno come fi kill sound tonight mon." Since i was planning a sneak attack, I denied it.  He then turned to Keith and said "A nuff dub this." He then told me he only brought a hand full of tunes and some 45's -- so i should play first.

No Dubs?  What?  I had nuff big chat and crazy dubs. The crowd was hype.  Then looked in the crowd and saw about 3 dub boxes make their way to the stage.  Squingy walked up and said to me 10 more mins them mi ready!!  Yo, he rubbed me out wicked!  Bounty after Bounty, then  cocoa tea and sanchez played about 12 times.  He was mixing, dancing and talking on the mic all at the same time.  He made me look stupid as fuck...  I got the biggest kill of my life. Everybody in Queens was laughing at me for about 3 weeks straight.   At the end of the night, he told me that he heard about the Jamrock clash so he came prepared.  The beating wasn't the worst part.... The fact that he did it without effort was the part that killed me.

RIP Squingy......you are  gone but will never be forgotten.  Your name will forever govern every clash arena in the world.  And your talent will be respected infinitely!!

I\'m a collector of sound clash tapes, and went to quite a few dance. To date, Squingy is the only selector that can hype up a crowd. He is truly a legend in the clash business. I remember the dance with him n skyjuice inna St Ann, before he was know. Skyjuice tell him seh, u gonna be a wicked selector, because yuh know tune. That was so many years ago, and it came to pass..right now i\'m playing a ODYSSEY tape n rewinding to dem anthem..Terror Fabulous and Mikel Rose..sound clash has lost a true great, and a legend.
