Recently, we had a huge discussion on Soundchat radio regarding the rank of radio/dancehall selector and legend David Rodigan. Among the questions asked were,
- Is he underrated in the soundclash arena?
- Should he be looked at as one of the industry's best?
- Is he not as big as many make him out to be?
I had a conversation with a clash fan who felt that David Rodigan should not be rated among the likes of legends such as Trooper, Matterhorn, Pink Panther etc.. His argument was that David Rodigan hardly clash, which in his view meaning David has done very little for the development of sound clash culture. Also in his opinion David Rodigan has failed to inspire a movement of any kind among the younger generation of clash selectors within the two or more decades of his career.
The conversation got heated very fast as others joined in. I had no idea that David Rodigan's rank was in question by some clash fans. To me it's not even debatable. David Rodigan should in every sense of the word be consider an ICON of sound clash culture. So I brought the conversation to the radio. Take a listen to what the listeners of Sound Chat radio had to say.
