MARLON "AJAMU" MYRIE was born in the rural parish of St. Mary's Jamaica and currently resides in Brooklyn New York, which has been the home base of Ajamu Photography for the past 10 years. Ajamu is the leading photographer of the dancehall reggae scene, covering every event from live performances to candid reportage, to formal portrait work. He frequently travels the world to shoot both high-profile events and private sessions. His photojournalism embraces a wide range of Caribbean and pop culture subjects from Lee Scratch Perry to Eminem.
Ajamu's photographs have appeared in The New York Times, VIBE, The Source, One World, Jamaica Gleaner, Star and Village Voice. Known for his nerves of steel, Ajamu is one of the world's foremost authorities on dodging projectiles thrown onstage and avoiding stampeding crowds. "Just cool," he often tells his colleagues in the field. "If you're running, then I'm going to stand right here." But as this veteran photographer often points out, the race is not for the swift, but for who can endure it.
