YIKES, a pair of running spikes belonging to triple Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt was auctioned for £25,000 (JMD$3.4 million) at the Rotary Club of Birmingham's special dinner in honour of Jamaica's Olympic team on Monday night. Also auctioned was a signed Jamaican shirt, which fetched £4,000 (JMD$550,000).
The funds will provide scholarships money for potential students of Birmingham's University, which is hosting the Jamaican delegation until Thursday morning when they leave for the Olympic Village.
Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association president Dr Warren Blake, technical leader Donald Quarrie, and several athletes, were in attendance at the event.
